PRESS RELEASE -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE CHILDREN’S REHABILITATION ENGINEERING TEAM IS FORMING A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PI KAPPA PHI FRATERNITY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA.
Pi Kapps are involved in the Mobile, Alabama community.
Most fraternity men are involved in service; however, at Pi Kappa Phi we take that commitment seriously. Pi Kappa Phi is the only fraternity to establish and maintain its own national philanthropy, an organization called PUSH America that enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities.
PUSH America is a national organization that helps fund events at the national and local level. Here in Mobile, AL our Gamma Phi chapter has formed a partnership with the Children's Rehabilitation Engineering Team of Mobile, AL (or CRET for short). The purpose of this team is to serve people with disabilities in the Alabama counties of Mobile, Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Escambia, Monroe, and Washington by assisting them with their adaptive technology needs. The team is comprised of members from various local and state agencies that work with people with disabilities. By working together, the team is able to pool their talents and resources.
Gamma Phi Teams up with CRET
In the Spring of 2008 Gamma Phi began working with the CRET. They started by attending the monthly Team meetings held at the Goodwill Easter Seals building near USA Medical Center. They met Robert Perry and the Team of directors. The chapter then began to set in motion specific plans to assist with a couple of service projects that the CRET team was involved with.
On Sunday morning August 17, 2008 sixteen Pi Kapps built a wheelchair ramp for Willie, a paraplegic young man in Prichard, AL. Susan Polizzi with Individual & Family Support helped the chapter organize the service project. Push America chairman Andrew Schneider planned the event.
The Gamma Phi chapter of Pi Kappa Phi looks forward it its relationship with CRET as we develop the leaders of tomorrow by serving people with disabilities today.
